On Saturday night a 19-year-old boy was shot dead in Bihar’s Gaya allegedly by the son of a Janata Dal United leader who was annoyed with the 16 years old boy for overtaking his SUV. Rocky Yadav, the son of Legislative Council member Manorama Devi, is on the run to avoid being captured by the police.

Aditya Sachdeva, a businessman’s son who had recently given his Class 12 exams, was in his Swift car with his friends when he overtook the Range Rover belonging to the family of Manorama Devi. Rocky was travelling in the SUV with a security guard who has said that the bullet that hit Aditya was fired from the personal revolver of the politician’s son.Aditya’s friend, who was with him in the car has told the police that Rocky and the guard started firing in the air to stop them soon after they overtook the SUV.

“When we stopped, they forced us to get out of the car and then punched us. When we tried to leave the place, someone fired from behind the car and a bullet hit my friend,” he said and added that other than the guard, a person sitting in the front seat of the car also had a gun in his hand.

While Police is on the hunt for Rocky, they have arrested Ms Devi’s husband Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav for helping him escape and also the guard. Mr Yadav was jailed in a sedition case in the past. In a separate incident in 2011, 6000 rounds of ammunition of a banned weapon were recovered from him in 2011.

The guard has also told the police that Rocky wanted to teach Aditya and his friends a lesson. The guard told, “The bullet would have got fired accidentally while the two fought.”

Mr Yadav has alleged that his son was beaten up by Aditya and his friend who were drunk. However, he admitted that Rocky carried a licensed revolver with him. “It must have happened in the fight while he was trying to defend himself,” he said.

Kin of the teenager held a protest in the area today demanding quick action against Rocky. BJP’s Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar met them this morning and later accused the state government of “failing to curb crime in Bihar”. “Jungle raj is back,” he said.

Police said they are conducting raids on a massive scale to arrest the accused. Garima Mallick, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya said, “As per our investigation and eyewitnesses, Rocky had fired the shots. We will arrest him soon.”
