One cannot even measure the discrimination media and the government does to several sports, *conditions apply*(Cricket). One such sport is Paralympic. Shocking news that shattered the dreams of such talented paralympians was the recent ignorance they got from the media. Being won 3 Golds, 14 Silver , 16 Bronze medals in the recent Paralympic Asian Games held in South Korea in October,2014, there is hardly any mention in media about their great achievement.
In a recent interview in January, Deepa shared her experience and how ignored she felt despite of her great performance. Deepa started her career at 36, currently 44 have congenital spinal condition since she was 6 and have survived 3 surgeries. She was the only women who won a Silver medal at the recent Para Asian Games at Incheon last October. She was also won a Arjuna award earlier and the first Indian women who won a medal in the Para Asian games in China,2010. She complained in her recently interview that they win so many medals but media cover hardly any details. She comes from a well-off background being wife of an army Colonel. But this isn’t the comfort as well as she have to live away from her family for so long in Delhi, were she have her training sessions. Her travelling expenses, rent , full time attendant etc costs high. The less coverage by media means less funds. They have much requirements regarding their cost training, travel, coaches, entry fees, lodging, equipments etc. But unluckily, most of them have to arrange everything by themselves. What harm it can cause if some of the little attention can be given to these paralympians? When will we realise there is much more in this country than just known sports and money.
