A 25-year-old woman jumped off a moving train near Dima station with her husband and 10-month-old daughter after a group of men allegedly threatened to gangrape her, said the railway police. No arrest has been made yet.
“These men started harassing her after they crossed Siliguri. They were in the general compartment…and the family was alone with these men,” said an official.
The family de-boarded the at first station they arrived, i.e., New Hasimara Railway Station and seek help from the guard there. However, the woman mentioned in the complaint that guard asked them to file a formal complaint at Alipurduar, the next station. However, the officials denied any such conversation with the guard.
When she did not get protection, the family jumped off the Mahananda Express to save their lives from people who even threatened to kill them if they protested against them. They jumped near a jungle the train was crossing by. They could not get any help in side the running train as family was traveling alone with the men in the general couch.
The group fled at Alipurdaur Station and hence so far, no arrest has been made.
The family survived with some major fractures in the brain of the baby girl and the husband, however the woman escaped with few minor injuries.
