acid attack

All it takes for a person to ruin someone’s life is a few seconds. Everything from there then goes downhill, everything seems to look like it’s never going to get fixed. Rebuilding your life from scratch is like reliving your first step, your first fall and all your experiences that you’d once learnt and move on from.

This wouldn’t sound like a task if it were you who were living this struggle. But what if that person were an Acid attack victim? Let’s address them as Acid attack survivors, because they were victims of the past, their present is nothing but a battle, where we believe, all have won! Nobody wants to be called a ‘victim’ for life, but when you have scars that remind you about it everyday, it is difficult. But in a remarkable move taken by the Delhi Government, these survivors can now get a job! The government has promised to provide jobs to 6 Acid Attack Survivors!

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal met Health Minister Satyendar Jain last month and gave him the resumes of acid attack victims regarding their employment in the department. This news has come as a delightful surprise and a reason to celebrate for all the victims! Laxmi, the face of the Stop Acid Attacks campaign, said the decision sent a very positive message to the acid attack survivors.

These faces are more than just a symbol of struggle, they’re the face of strong women who have survived. Let’s hope more women get a chance to study further and get jobs they always dreamed of. Because nothing feels more motivating than being accepted as their own.

The chairperson for the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal called up a meeting with the deputy chief minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia and the health minister Satyendra Jain on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by a delegation of five acid attack victims.

The Delhi government had made an announcement a day before the meeting, that the acid attack victims will be provided medical treatment for free in all hospitals of Delhi, inclusive of government and private hospitals. The private hospitals were also directed by the Supreme Court in April to provide all medical assistance to victims. This treatment also involves expensive plastic surgeries and corrective surgeries.

Swati Maliwal kept her stance by saying that, there had been directions by the Supreme Court earlier to provide free medical treatment to acid attack victims but the directions weren’t implemented. This move is to draw the attention of the concerned ministers in this matter to provide good medical treatment to the victims. The acid attack victims need continuous medical treatment, and money shouldn’t be a barrier to them. Maliwal further added that 35 victims in Delhi have already received compensation from Delhi Legal Services.

The DCW Chairperson brought up the issue of employment for the victims of acid attack. The DCW officials said, that all the 35 victims would get a government job based on their skills, interests and qualifications. A database will be prepared, which will include all their details.

Satyendra Jain said the commitment till now was made only for acid attack victims in Delhi and not for the victims living outside Delhi. Dr. R N Das, who is an officer on special duty to the health minister, is nominated as nodal officer for treatment of the victims. A committee has been proposed to be formed with DCW by the health ministry; for implementation of Supreme Court’s direction effectively.

The acid attack victims are also dissatisfied that their cases against perpetrators of acid attack are still pending in various courts. The Delhi Government on this issue accepted the demand of Delhi Commission for Women, to appoint senior lawyers to pursue the cases of the victims and maintain a follow-up with the assistance of the home department.

New Delhi: Sonali Mukherjee and Chittarjan Tiwari’s story sounds just like a Bollywood movie. Mukherjee is an acid attack survivor, who participated in reality show, KBC in the year November 30, 2012 and won a handsome amount as prize money.

It was not an attempt by Mukherjee to gain sympathy of public by appearing on the big screen rather it was a necessity as her father almost became broke after the 22 surgeries that she had to undergo after the acid attack on her in 2003.

She was merely 17-year-old at that time and a college student, when three men attacked her because she had rejected their sexual advances. On the night of April 22, they broke into her home and poured acid on her face while she was sleeping, leaving her partially deaf and blind and completely disfigured for lifetime.

Then she came into limelight. Tiwari got impressed with her as she dared to face the big screen. He sent facebook request to her and started chatting with her. Gradually they came together and tied the knot on April 15, 2015 in Jharkhand

Sonali’s struggle is yet to end, though. She says another Rs 8.5 lakh must be raised before the next round of surgeries can progress.

Postgraduate student throws acid on lecturer for not marrying her ,
Now The Girls Turn to do so …?
Acid attack on professor

GUNTUR: A postgraduate student allegedly threw acid on her former lecturer outside a government polytechnic college at Nallapadu in Guntur district on Saturday, apparently to take “revenge” from him for reneging on his promise to marry her, police said.

The incident occurred when the young woman, who is currently pursuing PG in mathematics at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, threw the corrosive substance on Venkataramana at the college gate. The girl, clad in a burqua to conceal her identity, was identified as Soujanya, police said.

“Wearing ‘burqua’ to hide her identity, Soujanya waited at the gate of the government polytechnic college at Nallapadu, where Venkataramana is a lecturer and threw acid on him when he came out during lunch hour,” Guntur (South) DSP, K Narasimha, told PTI.

He said Venkatramana suffered burn injuries on his face though he tried to fend her off by holding her hand.

“In the process to resist her bid, some drops of acid fell on her cheek,” the officer said, adding that the duo are admitted to a hospital.

The DSP said that Soujanya was earlier a student of Venkataramana when he was teaching in a degree college in Narasaraopet, where they developed intimacy and agreed to enter into wedlock.

But thereafter, she left to do her post graduation in Andhra University in Visakhapatnam and Venkatramana to Nallapadu.

“Venkataramana got married to another woman last year, and he was avoiding Soujanya,” Narasimha said, adding that a case will be lodged soon.
