In a shocking and horrifying incident, a 44-year-old Pune man who shot to fame four years ago for making a Rs 1.27 crore shirt entirely of gold was attacked with stones and killed, allegedly in front of his son, early Friday morning.
Little had Datta Phuge known that the supposed birthday party he had set out to attend with his 22-year-old son would turn into a death trap for him.
Police are speculating a money dispute that could have led to his murder. He had been called for a birthday party but somehow he and his son ended up in an open ground in Dighi area of Pune, reports the Indian Express. While at least 12 men stabbed and bludgeoned Phuge with stones and a sharp object leaving him dead on-the-spot, they spared his son who witnessed the crime.
Phuge was a businessman who had criminal cases against him. He had floated a chit fund through which he collected money from several investors, police officials said.
Some of these investors had complained about financial irregularities in the past and could be behind his murder, sources said, according to Hindustan Times report.
Rest of the investigation is underway and Police have detained four suspects as of now including Phuge’s nephew.
