A campus meant to educate and inculcate values amidst students, has now become a battleground. We just got over the incidence of JNU which took place last month, now NIT Srinagar came into light in the recent past when there was a clash between local and students from other places after the India Vs West Indies match. There were protests, anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans shouted out. The issue went out of hand and the NIT officials had to shut down the college for security purpose and only reopened this Monday.
However, some non-Kashmiri students still feeling unsafe in the campus and demanded to leave the state and go back to their home-towns even after the security personnel tried hard to pacify them that the situation is all under control.
A few students, later resorted to a peaceful protest and carried the Indian National Flag to hoist when a herd of policemen ambushed them and started attacking the students and beating them up with Lathis.
This image from the video grab will bring to your notice how the situation went haywire and how one student particularly was beaten up mercilessly. The students of NIT have blamed the Government and are demanding the Tiranga back which allegedly has been seized by the JKP (Kashmir) Police when they were silently protesting outside the boys hostel.
The worst part is that no media house is trying to report the real side of the story. Question: why is still hovering over everyone’s mind. What is reaching us, is a filtered version of the entire situation. Media should be unbiased and should carried out news fairly so that people get to know the real aspects. The Ministers are clearly blind if they tweet this out after the protest –
Mild? If this is mild, we fear what full-fledged attacks might look like. Every media house that has reported the news has had no version of the NIT Sringar students’ point of view. We’re investigating the matter and will return with more information on this. Until then, here’s hoping that this news spreads like wildfire and the truth finally triumphs today’s sell-out media.
