The future of our country is bright. We know that as every other day we get to hear about university students are hired by Google or Microsoft. India has no scarcity of whizz-kids. They all are doing exceptionally well study wise and intellect wise.
Sataparna Mukherjee got awarded a scholarship by NASA who is an 18-year old class 12 girl from West Bengal.
NASA’s Goddard Internship Programme (GIP) under the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) selects five students from the world for it’s reputable scholarship programme. Sataparna, who studies at St. Judes School, Madhyamgram, in Kamduni, a village about 30 km. outside of Kolkata, got the scholarship after posting her views and ideas on Black Hole Theory on a social networking group.
She posted her thoughts as a paper on NASA’s official website.
One of the group member advised her to post her ideas on Nasa’s official website. Her observations were on the topic of Black Hole Theory and how it can be useful to build a Time Machine. She’s fortunate enough that NASA will be funding her entire higher education and she will be planned to pursue her further studies in Aerospace Engineering from Oxford University in London.

She will be working as a researcher under the Goddard Internship Programme.
Sataparna will get to work as an employee and researcher under the Earth Science and Technology Development Program at the NASA Centre in London, according to the GIP fine print. Apart from taking care of all her expenses, NASA will also reward Sataparna with a good sum of consideration. Sataparna will appear for her final examinations this year before flying to abroad.
Sataparna has become the youngest Indian student to be selected for such a research project by NASA, and everybody at her home and school are proud of her achievements. She must be in seventh heavens and grateful for her intellect and we must not forget the part played by social media in her success story.
Congratulations Sataparna Mukherjee, the sky is the limit!
