On October 2015, we told you about the monumental decision of women joining the IAF as fighter pilots. Manohar Parikar had approved the induction of women fighter pilots into the combat stream of the IAF.

Recently, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha notified that India will witness its first batch of women fighter pilots on 18 June this year.

Arup Raha told that three women have volunteered to join the fighter stream already, while speaking at a seminar on ‘Women in Armed Medical Corps‘ in New Delhi on account of International Women’s Day.

They are undergoing training as of now and once that’s complete, they will undergo advanced jet training and proceed to regular squads.

He also said, “As of now three women trainees have volunteered to join the fighter stream. They are under the second phase of their training. Once they complete their training and are at par with their male colleagues and the passing out parade is scheduled on June 18th of this year.”

He further stated that he was incredibly happy with Defense Ministry’s finally approving women joining the IAF as fighter pilots.
