In another case of Hit and Run, a 60-year-old man was killed and five others injured when an SUV ran over them when they were sleeping on footpath in the Maniktala area in the northern part of the Kolkata on Tuesday, police said.The incident took place around 1.30 AM today on Maniktala Main Road near CIT Park here when the six persons, mainly vegetable vendors, were sleeping on the footpath.
A kolkata Police official told, The driver of the SUV lost control over the vehicle and it ran over the sleeping persons after mounting the pavement.
Ali Hussain Sardar succumbed to his injuries, he said.
While four persons were discharged after treatment, Esak Mondal, 50 years old, is undergoing treatment at RG Kar Medical College. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, he said.
When asked whether the driver was drunk, Officer told, “We are waiting for the medical report of the person concerned.”
