In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl committed suicide by shooting herself using her father’s revolver at her house as she was upset over not getting good marks in mathematics in Class 12 in Moga on Wednesday.
A student of Government Senior Secondary School, Moga, Simranjeet Kaur, who had scored 71% marks in Class 12 in the non-medical stream. She was upset as she scored only 27 marks in mathematics. Her father Gurdev Singh said Simranjeet was upset as all her friends had scored above 80% in boards.
Girl’s father said, “I had assured her that we will go to Chandigarh for getting the mathematics paper rechecked, but she took the extreme step before that.”
Gurdev said that he was out of the house for some work and his wife and brother left for the market, when Simranjeet took this extreme step to end her life.
“When my wife and son returned and knocked at the door, nobody responded. They broke open the door and found Simranjeet in a pool of blood,” he said.
Police have started investigating the case thoroughly. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
