After the 8 year war with Iran over territorial disputes and religious rivalries between the Iranian Shiites and Iraqi Sunni factions, Iraq had a massive debt to many Arab nations including Kuwait. The international relations between Iraq and Kuwait have been turbulent, fueled by Iraqi debt and conflicts over oil.The movie airlift depicts the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq which further led to a seven month long Iraqi occupation of Kuwait with 1,70000 Indians living in the city. The movie oversimplifies this hugely complex mission into an one man mission which beholds the actual horrifying events during the invasion, and only covers the basic tension during the invasions.
