In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) technique gave Veena Tewari, 55 years old, a son after four decades of marriage. When it is unusual to become mother.

Veena got married to Vikash Tiwari in 1976, became the first person in Dhanbad to get a child via IVF. Her son was born on May 25.

The couple told reporters after being treated at an infertility treatment clinic under Dr Neha Jha, an in-vitro fertilisation specialist, “It’s just like a dream come true.”

Earlier, said Dr Jha, embryos used to be developed in test tubes which leads to the name test tube babies but now they are developed in petri dishes.

“Since the word test tube has become popular, here also we use the same language to make people aware of the treatment,” she added.

The couple approached Jha about a year ago after decades of praying and consulting doctors.

“It’s a blessing of the Almighty,” said Vikash.

Jha said she was initially apprehensive about success in the case because of Veena’s age as she was in menopause for the past 15 years.

Though Veena is first person to get child via IVF in Dhanbad, at same time three more couples who were undergoing treatment under Dr Jha gave birth to four kids via test tube fertilization with a fortnights time in Dhanbad.

Four more women undergoing treatment at Jha’s clinic gave birth to five kids between May 25 and June 5. One of the mothers hailed from Phushro area and gave birth to twins.
