Badlega India

Where today’s generation heading too? It is unbelievable to imagine that a teenager, there was no concept of a mobile phone, and the only way to reach a person was through a landline at home. Owning a smartphone has become a luxury and a status symbol, and for many children, it is now a necessity without which they can’t function.

But youth failed to realised the bad impact of being obsessed with this technology. We don’t because our thoughts are blinded by our desires. A 13 year old teenager in Gujarat today showed us where our obsession with status symbols can lead us to.

In her immense desire to own a smartphone like her friends, she turned to something that will be unimaginable to you – prostitution. Yes, a teenager sold herself to be able to afford a smartphone, as her mother was unable to buy her one.

The girl only spilled the beans to her mother recently when she feared that she may be pregnant. When taken to a counsellor, the girl told them that she used her empty house when her mother was away to invite clients. The girl had earlier fallen into wrong company and had to be sent to her maternal uncle’s place in Anand, from where she came back a year ago citing that she will commit suicide if forced to live there further.

What we need to understand from such stories is that it is necessary to speak to our children about sex, about how important it is to be open to their parents about their desires, especially when they want something. This girl is one of the many cases of young teenagers going adrift and committing crimes or going on the wrong path just to earn easy money so they can afford materialistic lifestyle.
