Sexual education means talking about all the factors that feed into children and young people’s sexual growth and development. It includes discussing topics, such as bodies privacy, sexual decisions, respectful behaviors and language, and the importance of “sex” in an individual’s life. Research indicates that many young people are sexually active in some way and this has increased over the last decade. Information related to sex is mostly misinformed through various other means that are available to the youth, whether it is through friends, mobile apps, blogs, advertisements, reality TV, and television serials. The primary purpose of many of these messages is to sell a product, not to equip young people with the consequences which can further prevent them from having a healthy and fulfilling adult life. Many parents find it difficult to talk to their children about sexual matters. Research suggests that parents generally aren’t very confident about discussing sexual issues with their children, and children also share the same feelings while sharing or discussing such information. Missing out of such valuable information related to sex puts young children at risk. Parents may assume the school system will take care of their child’s sex education, and so choose not to say anything. Parents may even postpone talks about sex until they don’t encounter their child in a relationship. With the increasing levels of sexual abuse, rapes, sexual activities by the youth, and sexual awareness gained by the youth, it is important that the parents start discussing sexual issues at an early age with their children to avoid further consequences. In infancy and childhood ( 2-9 years of age) it becomes necessary to teach the child what is a difference between a right touch and a wrong kind of touch, as they cannot be explained such insensitive issue through any other means. The correct time to start a proper homely education of sex is in early adolescence(13-17 years of age), where they are just starting to learn about sex and sexual talks or matters from their surroundings and various other institutions. This way they can be well-prepared by the time they enter into early teenage or adult relationships that they tend to develop in future.
