On Sunday, Chhattisgarh Police arrested a truck driver who had allegedly rammed his truck into a SUV and killed three people, including the husband of an anchor who broke the news of the accident live on television.
The 28-year-old, Supreet Kaur, a news anchor with Chhattisgarh’s private IBC-24 left everyone speechless by her exemplary commitment as she kept her profession first even after realizing the news she just read could be about her husband.
Supreet Kaur, 28, began reading news from across Chhattisgarh at 10 am as usual on Saturday. About 15 minutes into the bulletin, she broke news about a car accident in Mahasamund that had left three dead. Kaur spoke to a local reporter who gave more details but no names. Soon she learnt that she was reading news live about her husband’s death. Kaur kept her composure and continued the bulletin on IBC 24 for at least 10 minute. She broke down once the cameras were off.
The driver, who was on the run got arrested from Rajnandgaon, police said.
As per the reporters, there were five people in the SUV, a Renault Duster, out which three were dead. Though, the dead people were not identified, it was enough for Kaur to realize that it could be her husband. Her husband too, was to travel in a Renault Duster on the same route and at the same time with four others.
Expressing grief over the incident, chief minister Raman Singh tweeted, “Salute Supreet’s strength in dealing with her husband’s demise with extraordinary bravery and professionalism. May departed soul rest in peace”.
Bhupesh Baghel, State Congress president saluted her courage.
A colleague said, “We are standing with her in this difficult situation. She has set an example for journalism and professionalism”.
The last solemn ceremony of Harsad Kawade, Kaur’s husband, will be performed on Monday. They married a year ago.
