Trupti Desai, Women Rights Activist Beats Up Man In Public

A video went viral on social media of Trupti Desai, founder of the Bhumata Ranragini Brigade, who shot to fame by entering places of worship where women are prohibited, beating up a young man after he refused to marry a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair on Wednesday.

The woman rights activist along with her colleagues beat up Srikant Londhe using slippers in full public view at Pune-Ahmednagar road near Shirwal, about 100km from Pune.

Londhe had sexually exploited the woman after promising to marry her, according to Desai.

Desai also claimed that the woman was pregnant and Londhe promised to marry her if she chose to abort. However, he failed to keep his word even after the woman obliged, said Desai.

“We have taught him a lesson as he was deceiving two other women with same promises. I had no option but to take the law in my hands as the affected woman had initially gone to police who failed to act,” quoted by Desai, according to Hindustan Times reports.

“If social activists start taking law in their hands and start justifying it then they are setting a dangerous precedent,” said Vishwambhar Choudhari, a social activist.
