Indian Railway stations are going to have Wi-Fi connections soon. Facebook is working along with the Indian railways to provide Wi-Fi services across railway stations too. Facebook India initiated this idea and approached Indian railways. As quoted by Times of India, RK Bahuguna, chairman of Indian Railways’ communications arm RailTel says, “Facebook India has approached us for the Wi-Fi initiative. We will engage with the company for the expansion of our internet access program across railways stations to cover villages in the vicinity.”
RailTel has optic fiber-based networks across about 4,000 stations in India and is also rolling out Railwire-branded Wi-Fi hotspots partnered with the major search engine Google that aims to connect minimum 100 railway stations with data network by the end of the year.
