Steve Waugh, former Australian cricketer, had already won the hearts of Indian fans after placing his faith in Virat Kohli and the Indian team to bounce back in the four-match Test series following their surprise loss in the first match.
Above everything his recent gesture has helped the former Aussie skipper to earn more respect across the world. He has fulfilled his friend Stephen’s last wish, the 51 years old traveled all the way to Manikarnika Ghat to immerse the ashes of his mate into the holy river Ganga.
Waugh’s friend, who wanted his ashes to be immersed in the holy river, had expired four months ago. The Australian legend, accompanied by another friend, reached Varanasi on Tuesday afternoon after which he hired a guide and reached the Dshashwmed Ghat directly.
From there he took a boat and reached the Manikarnika Ghat where he immersed the ashes and then captured various pictures of the place on his camera.
While talking to the media Waugh said, “Stephen was my very loving friend. His last wish was that after his death, his mortal remains were to be immersed here.”
Waugh has been a well-respected figure in the Australian cricket circuit and his gesture has only elevated the respect for him in many hearts.
